The newest edition of the text includes a new foreword by the author and a preface by Douglas Hofstadter in memory of Alan Turing.
Mr. Turing was one of the greatest minds in Britain, a Cambridge mathematician who was assigned the task of cracking German Enigma keys, which helped change the outcome of the Second World War. But what Alan Turing planned to do with his knowledge stemmed far beyond this one achievement. He was interested in the creation of a computing device. In 1924, his first design was completed in the form of a digital computer.
Turing’s plans paved to way for the concept of Artificial Intelligence. However, Alan himself was rendered as a criminal when in 1952 his homosexuality is discovered. Because of this, he is subjected to degrading treatment. He finally committed suicide in at the age of 41, in 1954.
