Before Sparrow was published Matthews sold the book to movie adaptation rights for the book. See above for IMDb cast list. The book is about American espionage. We learn about the day to day aspects of the intelligence gathering field. From physical techniques to the emotional aspect.
Red Sparrow Plot
Our protagonist Dominika Egorova, who later becomes the Red Sparrow is introduced as a famous Russian prima ballerina who performs at the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet. Her ambition and tenacity caused her to push her body to the limit while unfortunately resulted in a career-ending injury. Dominika now left with limited options she has to make a decision to get help for her ailing mother. She is forced by her uncle to be trained at the Sparrow School, and serve her state. Sparrow is a Russian intelligence program where participants are trained to use their bodies as weapons. During her stay at Sparrow, she and the other attendees learn how to seduce the enemy through sadistically intensive and rigorous training. Of which our protagonist is no stranger to and becomes one of the Sparrow’s most gifted weapons. What makes the ‘Red Sparrow’ special is that she has the ability to determine that nature of people by visualizing their emotions.
She is soon assigned a mission, to make contact with a CIA agent and gain information about the identity of Russian spies that might be feeding him and his agency information.
Faced with uncertainty in a world of lies and hardship can our newly crowned Sparrow emerge from her mission alive?
