Introduction
A Sicilian mafia family has risen to the top of the food chain, in the underground world. The Don or head of the family is becoming older but has ruled successfully for many years. The time comes for his youngest son, to take his role as head of the family. This son, however, has spent many years in the military and also disapproves of his father’s lifestyle. Despite this, unfortunate events, causes him to begin the process, of embracing his father’s world. The Godfather is a thrilling coming of the age story, of the family’s next, and also most unexpected Don.
The Godfather Book PDF Plot
This story takes place in New York, where they are 5 major mafia families who run just about everything. The Corleone’s the most powerful at the time, and also the head family had control over many policeman and politicians. These families even decided what clothes were available to be bought in stores.
Connie, the daughter of the Don of the Corleone family, Vito, is enjoying the festivities of her wedding day. It’s also on this day that Carlo Rizzi, Connie’s husband joins their family. Though Carlo is seen as a half-breed by the Corleones. The Don is taking the time to enjoy his daughter’s wedding while still handling his affairs. One of which is securing his Godson a starring role in a movie. He goes about doing this by giving the movie director an offer which he cannot refuse. The family is after all among the highest priorities within the mafia world. Connie is only one of Vito’s children, he only has three sons. One being his oldest son Sonny, the middle son Fredo, who is very dutiful but also not the sharpest mind. The youngest son Michael, who serves in the military and is a war hero, but wants no part of his father’s business.
Virgil Sollozzo, a Turk, comes to town and approaches Don Corleone asking for his protection to run his narcotics business. This would strengthen the Don’s ties to the police force and so on. The sale of narcotics along with prostitution are against Vito’s ethics of business. However, Sonny unfortunately rashly makes it clear that he is in favor of the proposal to Sollozzo’s allies. Vito’s business rivals, upon learning of this carry attempt to assassinate the Don. Vito is hit by five bullets but manages to survive. This assassination attempt signaled the start of the war between the Corleones and the other families.
Recovery from being shot was only the first of major troubles for the Corleones. Sonny is gunned down later on by rival families. After this Fredo is sent away for his own safety. He is put to hide out for three years in Sicily after he murdered the police captain and also Sollozzo.
The Don recovers from his injuries and learns of what has happened to his family. Vito then calls a meeting with all the other families, major and minor, to try to bring about peace. Vito is sincere in his request and the other families come to understand this as well. Vito at the meeting goes on to state that he will not seek vengeance for Sonny. He will not seek out the person who murdered him and he will ensure that none of this subordinates do the same. However, if his son Michael is harmed in any way on his trip back from Sicily, he will not hold back and he shall hold all as guilty.
On his return, Michael goes under his father’s wing and joins the family business. Michael quickly catches to how the business is run and begins scheming with his father. The two examine not only how to reclaim their former position among the families but also their family’s future. They begin to put their plans into motion, first off by organizing a trip to Las Vegas.
