In The Longest Ride, Ira Levinson, a 90-year-old senior suffers multiple injuries from a car crash. He struggles to remain conscious but is helped by the memory of his loving wife, who seemed to materialize next to him. She passed away nine years ago. She keeps him alert by reminiscing through the experiences they went through while she was alive, from how they met to the WWII effects on their families. Ira is acutely aware that his wife, Ruth is not actually in the car with him, but he still clings to her words and his memories.
Just a few miles away, there is a local bull-riding event. Sophia Danko, a Wake Forest College senior, meets a cowboy named Luke. Through Luke, Sophia is introduced to a world where the wrong decision could very often be the difference between life and death, ruin, and reward. They both fall in love, and she finds herself in an unforeseen future, which was chosen by Luke, provided the secret he is keeping from her does not destroy it first.
The two couples mentioned have little in common and are separated by years and experience, yet their lives will converge. Reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys: beyond death, beyond despair to the farthest reaches of the human heart.
